As a very concerned citizen, I am wondering why the candidates and Congress have not debated the endless consitutional takeovers by the current administration and what it means for our future, as follows:

-Expansion of presidential power (read Charlie Savage’s book “Takeover:The Return of the Imperial Presidency and the
Subversion of American Democracy” the best piece of investigative journalism in a long time.

-Hiding details from Congress and citizens  of Terrorist Surveillance Program (TSP)…the president declines to share the number of Americans targeted…sister spying programs still remain secret (if it weren’t for executive branch leak of TSP to New York Times, we would still not know about it and there would be no congressional hearings).

-The administration still claims that secrecy, as opposed to transparency, is the constitutional rule for the executive branch (according to Bruce Fein, consitutional lawyer, chairman of the American Freedom Agenda and author of forthcoming book “Constitutional Perial: The Life and Death Struggle of Our Constitution and Democracy).

-Finally, these new powers created by this administration are now set for the next president to use.

Naomi Wolf eloquently states that we need to overwhelm our representatives, Presidential candidates with demands for them to restore the rule of law and hold those accountable who have committed crimes against the Constitution, as the Founders trusted us to do (read Naomi Wolf’s “The end of America: a letter of warning to a young patriot”).
